Some things will NEVER Change!

Hey there People,

Good to finally manage time to blog after a loooong time!

I am super-convinced or rather motivated to write a post only after a certain incident takes place with me, today, was no exception. Thus, I decided to share my experience with all!

This day i.e. the 8th of September 2008 happens to be the feast of the Nativity of Mother Mary (this means that on this day we celebrate Mother Mary's birth!) and though I am not a religious-being, being extremely fond of Mother Mary (don't ask why, it is a long story!) I decided to attend the feast mass (prayer gathering) in the Church.

To tell you the truth, these ceremonies bore the pants out of me, but sometimes, u cannot escape religion, especially if you live in a country like India.

So, all was going perfectly well (Read: The priest was doing a damn good job by boring people and forcing them to doze off, which is an essential quality to have in a priest!)

As I was saying that all was going perfectly well till came the part of the Homily or Sermon where the priest decides to educate the laymen on topics that are of relevance to the society we live in.

And since today was Mother Mary's day, he decided to dedicate his Homily to the girl-child and the women of our society. I said FINE, this homily sounds interesting and that it would be good if I'd pay attention to it.

And the Priest began. He began by saying what an ideal young-woman should be like, he used the following words, "You must not become CHEAP Women by getting addicted to Mobile phones, shopping, malls but rather use your time to study well, make good use of opportunities in life and move on. It gives me immense pride to see some girls become CEO's or work independently. You must not shy away from opportunities and cower in your abode but rather go out and challenge the world and make yourself a successful, independent woman!"

I said WOW, this Priest is some Man to encourage women like that and I was really looking forward to what he wanted to say next!

Then as soon as he was done with describing what an ideal successful career-oriented woman should be like, he began with another point, here it goes:

"Women should also learn to be great cooks and learn to keep their husbands happy, many a times husbands turn to alcohol because they don't get good food, women should learn to cook well so that they can keep their families bound together."

Now, isn't that a Contradiction of Statements, at one instance you say that women must be career-oriented and at the same time you say that they need to learn the ropes of household chores well to keep their husbands at bay from drinking????

Am sorry to say this, but Father....WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING????????????

It is so easy, to say stay career-oriented but yet cook good meals for your husband, I mean who the fuck is it coming from...a NON-MARRIED CELIBATE? Who are you kidding?

I lost my mind then, literally and wanted to shake the priest up thoroughly and ask him what exactly did he mean to say??

If going to the mall and having a mobile phone is cheap for a woman, so it is for a man!

If a man resorts to drinking JUST Because His wife doesn't cook good meals, what about all those women who silently suffer torture at the hands of abusive husbands, or husbands cheating on them with other women?

What kind of a society are we living in, I wanted to stand up and tell the priest but I refrained from doing so because I knew I would get rebuked, not only from men but from WOMEN TOO!

Yeah that is a dirty fact that the women in our society want to live as subservient beings because that is the way they are groomed!

My parents call me a weirdo for thinking so freely, but I say, if THIS is what SANITY is all about...I am happy to stay a weirdo all my FREAKING life!

Yours Weirdly,
Mitch.
